What we are looking for

The Head of Finance  is a critical role, which focuses organisation’s financial performance, planning, reporting, risk management, financial operations and procedures whilst driving the framework of policies that promotes financial compliance culture and vision amongst company’s ever-growing teams.

What does the job involve

Financial Strategy and Planning:

  • Develop and implement the company’s financial strategy to support its strategic goals and objectives.
  • Prepare and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial plans.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
  • Prepare and develop all necessary accounting procedures and financial manuals

Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analyses.
  • Monitor financial performance against budgets and forecasts, and provide insights to senior management.
  • Prepare financial and operational documents packages for lenders and investors, service their information requests and maintain long-term relationships
  • Ensure monthly closing process for accounting team and create and shape local processes in liaison with the accounting team
  • Prepare company’s budget, statements, and monthly analytical reports in accordance with Group guidelines

Risk Management:

  • Identify and assess financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, regulatory bodies, and financial institutions.
  • Liaise with the regulatory authorities on licencing, compliance or audits
  • Ensure compliance with financial reporting standards and regulations.
  • Identify and address potential financial risks and costs for the company
  • Follow the taxation and regulatory legislation and framework in the country and forecast implications for the company

Cash Flow and Treasury Management:

  • Oversee cash flow management, including forecasting and optimizing cash reserves.
  • Manage banking relationships and negotiate financial terms to benefit the company.
  • Ensure effective management of short-term and long-term financing needs.

Compliance and Governance:

  • Ensure adherence to financial regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor changes in financial regulations and implement necessary adjustments.
  • Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping for audits and compliance reviews.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Oversee recruitment, training, and development of finance staff.
  • Set performance objectives and conduct regular performance evaluations.

Financial Systems and Processes:

  • Evaluate and implement financial systems and technologies to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Streamline financial processes and procedures to enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Ensure the integrity and security of financial data and systems.

Stakeholder Relations & Management:

  • Maintain relationships with suppliers and providers of banking services, mobile money and dealerships.
  • Serve as the main contact person of Nigeria entity for finance related queries.
  • Actively participate in different financial processes and organisational matters
  • Have the ability to manage and control the execution of processes cross-functionally with multiple departments
  • Supervising the finance department and ensuring that all activities are current and updated.

Qualifications

  • BSc/BA in Accounting, Finance or relevant field. An MSc/MBA and Qualified Accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA) is desirable
  • Minimum 5 years previous experience in a similar position, 7 – 10 years of total experience
  • Financial operations knowledge, including managing finance flows, finance relations, financial strategy and planning, budgeting and forecasting, taxation issues, etc.
  • A hands-on professional with the ability to put things in structure; rational and result driven
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with ability to effectively present information to top management, identify problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Strategic thinker with a strong business acumen; able to understand and support corporate long-term business development strategy; Cost control & efficiencies – validate cost base
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities with a track record in managing and growing teams with the utmost level of respect and integrity
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of financial regulations, accounting principles, and IFRS standards with high levels of integrity and professionalism.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in financial/Payments software and systems (e.g., ERP systems, financial modeling tools).
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Commitment to the mission of financial inclusion and social impact.
