The company provides the best working capital loan products in the market, ensuring financial inclusion for micro and small businesses (MSBs). Since 2021, they have disbursed over $100 million in working capital to 80,000 businesses in East Africa and are poised for further growth in this $5 billion market.

What We Are Looking For

We are seeking a Head of Credit Operations responsible for developing credit strategy and managing all credit operations across East Africa. The role ensures that operational teams achieve key objectives while maintaining an excellent client experience. This position reports to the CEO and works cross-functionally to drive success in the lending business.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and Planning:

  • Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to develop the company’s strategy and department-level plans.
  • Lead the development and execution of a clear operational strategic plan and budget, including country-specific KPIs.
  • Build credit analytics and business intelligence capacity to support operational strategy execution.

Execution and Operational Management:

  • Oversee the credit department in all current and future countries of operation.
  • Ensure timely recruitment of staff to support smooth operations, efficiency, and portfolio growth.
  • Use a data-driven approach to identify innovations or improvements within credit operations (e.g., task prioritization, customer segmentation, incentive structures, collections SOPs).
  • Initiate experiments to test the impact of new approaches.
  • Enhance management capacity through upskilling and mentorship.
  • Chair Incentive Committee meetings, ensuring performance incentives align with strategic objectives.

Credit Team Culture:

  • Promote a culture of “systems-thinking,” enabling teams to identify root causes and drive strategic execution.
  • Manage talent acquisition, onboarding, development, and performance assessment.
  • Cultivate a culture of ownership, proactivity, accountability, and high performance.
  • Embed the company’s core values into all decisions and actions.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of lending operations, digital credit, or financial services.
  • 6+ years of experience with increasing responsibility, including at least 2 years in strategy and management.
  • Experience in leading operational strategy in a fast-growth tech company.
  • Proven track record in business process optimization, with measurable improvements.
