What we are looking for

We are looking for a Sales and Growth Lead in Kenya to drive market entry and success. This role involves building relationships with buyers, developing a commercial pipeline, and identifying growth opportunities in government relations, fundraising, partnerships, and communications. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in business development, sales, and leadership in fast-paced, dynamic environments.

What does the job involve

Build and Manage the Sales Pipeline

  • Identify high-quality leads for buyers in commercial and institutional markets.
  • Develop relationships with prospective buyers and understand their aspirations and challenges.
  • Convert prospective buyers into purchase agreements through effective sales processes.
  • Nurture long-term relationships with buyers, liaising with Essential’s production team.
  • Travel within Kenya and potentially the region to deepen buyer relationships.

Strategic Development**

  • Continuously iterate and refine Essential’s go-to-market strategy with the Strategy Lead and CEO.
  • Scope business opportunities for regional markets and new bio-manufactured products such as bio-fertilizers and enzymes

Support Growth Beyond Sales**

  • Government Relations: Develop and execute strategies to promote fermentation-derived food products, secure regulatory approvals, and align with government priorities.
  • Fundraising: Identify and pitch Essential to capital providers (grants, equity, and debt).
  • Strategic Partnerships: Forge relationships with R&D partners, coalitions, and consumer research organizations to support growth.
  • External Communications: Define and execute a strategy for social media, press, and public relations to amplify Essential’s impact.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, finance, or a related field; a master’s degree is advantageous.
  • Experience building relationships with government, capital providers, and non-/for-profit partners is advantageous.
  • Experience collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams (e.g., engineers, scientists, production teams).
  • Experience in strategic communications across various media platforms is a plus.
  • Background in start-up environments, the food and beverage industry, or tech-based organizations is advantageous.
